New competences for susainability transitions- climate competent student/ teacher
Climate change, green economy, and sustainable development expert Dr. Darja Piciga, in her comprehensive presentation addressed the climate crisis and the green transition within the framework of sustainable development: GEO-7 (UNEP), Earth4All (Club of Rome), Ecological Footprint & HDI (GFN), and solutions and opportunities. She briefly outlined the European Environment Agency (EEA) – the complexities and challenges of the sustainable transition – the need for a paradigm shift that includes an ecosystem approach and systemic innovations, as well as the European Green Deal and its implementation. She highlighted the need for new competencies: GreenComp, the European sustainability competency framework, the challenge of large-scale innovation in educational systems, and Green- Comp competencies in the knowledge base for the green transition (EEA) and climate actions. In the concluding part, she indicated a comprehensive, holistic approach to climate education, the learning objectives and contents of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and competencies for climate education, emphasizing the need to pay special attention to relatively new competencies and areas such as systems thinking and anticipating a sustainable future.
